The second year of the training continues to be experiential, including demonstration and practice. In both the first and second year, every session includes a demonstration, teaching, as well as an opportunity to practice, which we call practicum. As in the first year we work with real people, leaders, clients, and individuals who are volunteering to come to the institute to work with our students because of our reputation as a place where real change happens.
The second year builds on the basic skill set gained in the first year:
- Contact
- Contact skills
- The relational approach
- Resistance
- Theme development
All these skills are aimed at deepening the practitioner’s ability to engage and work with people. During the second year use of the use of the basic model with different concerns is explored in the therapeutic as well as the organizational coaching context.
Among the issues explored in the second year are:
- working with character in coaching and therapy
- the inflection point in change in coaching and therapy options
- diffusing negative beliefs in coaching and therapy
- building steel rods
- self-esteem in the business context as well as the psychotherapeutic context
- working with the introject system
- developing your style as a therapist or coach
At the end of the second year participants will be able to take the basic model and work effectively with a variety of therapy/coaching clients that come to work and grow.
During the first and second years students have the opportunity to work with clients with various diagnostic issues as well as organizational concerns of coaching, management, leadership, change, etc.
